A Goan catholic wedding can be classified into following three wedding rituals.
1. Pre-Wedding Rituals

A close relative of the groom, visits the bride’s home. They bring her, the wedding dress and help her in dressing up. Both the families bless the couple. Now, they further proceed to the church. Finally, at the nuptials for the wedding vows. Then the priest enunciates them man and wife.

The newlywed couple comes to the groom’s house. Here the groom’s mother gifts chain and sadoo (A red dress) to the bride. Then at the reception, cake is cut and a toast is raised. At the end of reception the bride’s family invite the couple. This happens on the next day for a ceremony called ‘apovnemn’.

In a Goan Catholic wedding, the bride usually wears a western-style white wedding gown/dress. The groom wears western-style suits.

Different Goan catholic wedding rituals are associated with some specific cuisine. Roas ceremony always concludes with serving guests with a sweet dish named ‘atoll’. In another ritual, ‘Bicareanchem Jevonn’, a special meal including samarachi koddi (dry prawn curry), Voddes, sweet dish, soji and Vonn are served. The wedding feast generally includes a Sorpotel ( a pork dish) served with Sannas, Goa Sausage Risotto, Goan fish curries etc. Common snacks includes beef tongue, beef cutlets, croquettes etc. Some of the popular sweet dishes are Khaje, Cashewnut laddus, Peda etc.
